Reactivation
We pride ourselves on a legacy of rich service and sisterhood and welcome Sorority Sisters with open arms. Sigma Lambda Omega Chapter meets on the first Saturday of each month in a San Fernando Valley location. Check-in starts at 10:45 a.m. followed by meetings beginning promptly at 11 a.m. If you are a Sorority member who plans to join us for the first time, to best assist you, please contact our Membership Chairman, Renee M. General Information
By uniting individual efforts, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® has built a strong, cohesive organization which positively impacts the lives of families and communities. The Sorority’s success is based on the depth of commitment, vision and confidence of its' members.
Membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is generally classified as undergraduate or graduate. In both classifications:

Process:
Graduate membership is by invitation only and may not be solicited through our graduate chapters. Graduate chapters host public events, such as forums, cultural presentations, and social activities so that prospective candidates can become acquainted with chapter members and learn about service activities they offer to local communities.

The Graduate Membership Experience begins with a Letter of Invitation, signed by the graduate chapter president AND membership chairman on chapter stationery. There are no membership activities prior to receipt of an official invitation letter, and the Sorority prohibits partaking in ME activities prior to receiving an official letter.

Membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is generally classified as undergraduate or graduate. In both classifications:
- Prospective members must have high ethical and moral standards
- Membership can only be obtained by completing the Sorority’s official Membership Experience (ME).
- Interested candidates should not participate in demeaning, degrading or unkind acts. Any member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® who asks you to perform tasks or participate in activities other than those outlined in our ME, is in violation of the Sorority’s policies and practices and does not represent the values of the organization; that behavior will not be tolerated.
Membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will not be extended to:
- An individual who knowingly participates in activities outside of the official ME.
- An individual who knowingly participates in activities which are demeaning, degrading or demoralizing.
- An individual who knowingly submits falsified documents or credentials.
Graduate Membership
Requirements:
- Completion of a baccalaureate degree, with at least a C+ cumulative average, or a graduate or professional degree (Ph.D., M.D., J.D., etc.) from an accredited college or university.
- C+ is equivalent to a 2.50 on a 4.0 scale if the school does not have a plus or minus on the grading scale.
- Motivation and talents to help promote, implement, and extend policies and programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
- Attendance at Information Session with the required documents listed in the Letter of Invitation.

Risk Management & Anti-Hazing
Policy
All existing and prospective members have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. A cornerstone of the Sorority's Risk Management policy is the prohibition of hazing.
Hazing has been prohibited in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority since the organization was founded in 1908. In 1999, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority reaffirmed its total opposition to hazing with the publication of a tougher anti-hazing policy and the implementation of new procedures to identify, investigate, and penalize incidents.

- Physical acts such as hitting, striking, laying hands upon, or threatening to do bodily harm to any individual(s) while acting in one's capacity as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
- Behavior which is directed against an/a individual(s) for the purpose of causing shame, abuse, insult, humiliation, intimidation, or disgrace.
- A variety of prohibited practices, including but not limited to; "underground hazing," "financial hazing," "pre-pledging," "post-pledging," or "post-initiation pledging".
Educating Members:
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® makes every effort to fully disclose its Risk Management policy, including but not limited to:
- Distributing brochures through university officials and graduate advisors, who, in turn, distribute them to prospective candidates likely to go through Sorority Rush. These brochures outline the Sorority's Risk Management policies.
- Training chapters on the Risk Management policies during workshops conducted before each chapter begins its Membership Experience (ME)/Rush activities. Undergraduate and graduate members involved in the ME process must promise to treat candidates with respect by signing a Commitment Statement that affirms they will not participate in hazing activities.
- Distributing a letter to all Rush participants from the respective Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Regional Director which defines hazing and outlines procedures for reporting hazing incidents; this letter is also read audibly as part of the Rush agenda.
- Providing all Rush participants with a copy of the Sorority's Risk Management policy.
